inubar; design for pets | 4 The Love of Animals

A beautiful new site just launched, and it?s just for pet lovers! We got a chance to check it out and were delighted by what we saw. Gorgeous treat jars, fun toys, cute clothing, and more. We even got to check out a few items, an adorable platypus that can be played with in the water, and a super fun polo shirt. There is something for every stylish dog at inubar, and wonderful gifts for dog lovers as well.

If you love your pets, but find a lot of the pet products out there a bit bland, then you really must sign up for inubar! They are letting people in slowly, but I promise it is worth the wait. Everything you order ships with just $5 regardless of how much you order! A great deal, and the prices on the site are fair as well. I do believe we are going to develop a shopping addiction. Our items arrived quickly, and were in great condition.

Thank you to inubar for providing items for review and for allowing me a sneak peek at the site. As always, my opinion is my own.

Nepal jeep plunge kills 14 pilgrims: police

At least 14 pilgrims were killed when a jeep carrying them to a sacred Hindu site in southern Nepal swerved off a highway and fell 100 metres (330 feet) into a stream below, police said on Saturday.

The jeep was taking the devotees to Ridi, a pilgrimage town in Palpa district, 120 kilometres (75 miles) west of Kathmandu, late Friday when the driver lost control, Nepal Police spokesman Rajendra Singh Bhandari told AFP.

"Locals came to know about the accident in the morning and informed the police. The death toll is likely to rise as the police rescue team is searching for bodies," he said.

Ridi, which lies at the confluence of the Ridi Khola and Kali Gandaki rivers, is visited by thousands of Hindus who bathe, worship at temples and cremate their dead.

District police inspector Purshotam Pandey said the pilgrims, from nearby Gulmi district, were carrying the remains of a relative to place them in the waters when their jeep crashed at the village of Deurali.

"The hilly road is little bit difficult and has lots of turns at the place where the accident occurred. We suspect that the jeep suffered brake failure," he said.

July marks the beginning of the monsoon season in Nepal, when rivers which have become parched in the first half of the year begin to swell up again, posing a greater threat to vehicles which lose control.

Accidents are relatively common on the impoverished Himalayan country's highways because of poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.

Two weeks ago 38 Indian pilgrims were killed when their overcrowded bus lost control and plunged into a river as they were travelling to a temple in neighbouring Nawalparasi district.

Nick Diaz Update: Will Return, Wants Anderson Silva

Like a passing case of the munchies, UFC welterweight contender Nick Diaz's plans to retire seem to have faded, and taking the place of that retirement is a burning desire to face UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva.? All this is according to his longtime coach, Cesar Gracie, who posted a lengthy statement on the matter over at GracieFighter.

It was only just February when Diaz purportedly turned his back on the sport, a move prompted by his controversial unanimous decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143.??The defeat?came?after a five-round scrap for the UFC Interim Welterweight Championship title, and the bout?saw Condit playing "hit and run" while the Stockton native followed him around and?hurled insults.? Soon after,?it was revealed that?Diaz had tested positive for?marijuana metabolites in a post-fight urinalysis, and the subsequent year-long suspension levied upon him appeared to be the icing on the retirement cake.

Said Gracie:

For the last couple months I've watched Nick begin to frequent the gym more and more.? He's training harder now than he has for many of his fights.? It was obvious that training and fighting is in his DNA.? It is who he is.

This week we had a great talk and he made it clear to me that he is ready to get back in the cage.? Nick Diaz will return.

With interim champ Condit destined to face UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 in November, who is there for Diaz - an elite,?top-level fighter -?to face that's worthwhile?

As far as future opponents, Nick has stated that he would like to take fights "that matter".? Since GSP will be fighting Condit, he has to look elsewhere.? He will respectfully ask for a fight with Anderson Silva, a fighter he respects and would like to challenge.

Silva's camp has been speaking of a fight with GSP, possibly even at a catchweight.? Nick will take that fight in a minute but has told me that should Silva decide not to drop at all, he will move up to 185lbs to face the Champ.

And there you have it.? Unfortunately, unless Diaz (or, more aptly, his attorneys) can figure out a way around his suspension, ain't nothin' going down 'till February, 2013.? Remember kids, dope is for dopes.? Don't be a dope!

Jim Genia tweets here and wrote this book.? Come at me, bro.

Willard says he did nothing to warrant arrest

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Fred Willard said his recent lewd conduct arrest at an adult movie theater was "very embarrassing" but insisted he did nothing wrong.

"It's the last time I'm going to listen to my wife when she says, 'Why don't you go and see a movie?'" Willard said during an appearance Thursday on Jimmy Fallon's NBC show "Late Night."

The 72-year-old actor and Fallon cracked racy jokes about possible titles for the movie that might have been playing when Willard was arrested July 18 during a routine check by police at the Hollywood-area theater.

Then the conversation turned serious for Willard, whose credits include the movie "Best in Show" and guest roles on "Modern Family" and other TV shows.

"Fred, I know this must be a tough time," host Fallon asked.

"It's very embarrassing. It's as embarrassing as hell," Willard replied. "But let me say this: Nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything is being sorted out as we speak."

He has great respect for the police, Willard added, "but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, everything seems suspicious."

He's tried to laugh it off but the incident is "very painful," said Willard, who was fired as narrator of the new PBS series "Market Warriors" immediately after his arrest.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's office determined that Willard's case was eligible for a diversion program that will keep him from being formally charged with lewd conduct if he completes the required courses. Willard will pay $380 for the program.

Talk shows can be useful for celebrity efforts at damage control. In 1995, Hugh Grant visited Jay Leno on NBC's "Tonight" after being arrested with a prostitute on Hollywood's Sunset Strip.

Fallon was sympathetic to Willard.

"You're a good man. ... You're one of my favorites," Fallon said, then needled him with, "You can come to our show and do whatever the heck you want, except for certain things."

Willard was nominated four times for Emmys for guest roles on "Modern Family" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." In Pixar's 2008 hit "WALL-E," he voiced the character of Shelby Forthright, the CEO of a ubiquitous big-box chain called Buy'n'Large.

In addition to "Best in Show," Willard has also appeared in other Christopher Guest mockumentary films, including "This is Spinal Tap" and "Waiting for Guffman."

Willard is hosting "Trust Us With Your Life," an improv series airing this summer on ABC.

Atlanta voters weigh tax increase to ease traffic

(AP) ? For decades, Atlanta has been the economic engine of the South, a dynamic city on the move. But if you've ever gotten behind the wheel here, it doesn't feel that way.

The Atlanta metropolitan area has some of the worst traffic in America, with drivers routinely stuck in monumental, bumper-to-bumper jams that can turn a 10-minute trip into a miserable, one-hour slog.

Hoping to ease the gridlock, the region's political and business leaders are pushing for a 1-cent increase in the sales tax to pay for billions of dollars in highway improvements and other transportation projects. The proposed tax is on Tuesday's ballot.

Civic leaders say that Atlanta's economic future hangs in the balance, with the metropolitan area in danger of losing business to more-livable cities unless it acts now to reduce congestion.

"Tampa, Charlotte, Denver, Dallas ... they all hope we lose," said Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce President Sam Williams. "The competition has been taking advantage of this."

Atlanta's traffic problems have been 50 years in the making, a consequence of runaway growth. The metropolitan area's population swelled from nearly 1.6 million in 1960 to more than 5.2 million in 2010, and many of the newcomers settled in suburbs radiating farther and farther from Atlanta's core.

Now those commuters are clogging the highways that run straight through the middle of the city or form a big ring around it.

Atlanta has a commuter rail system, but it is laid out basically like a big plus sign and doesn't reach many parts of the city. And there has long been opposition to its expansion.

The TomTom Congestion Index, compiled by the maker of automobile GPS devices, has ranked Atlanta the nation's eighth-most clogged city. According to the 2010 Census, Atlanta had the fourth-worst commute in America, with drivers taking an average of 30 minutes to get to or from work.

From billboards to beauty shops, the campaign for the tax has been hard-fought in recent weeks, and polls suggest the vote could be close.

Metro Atlanta is one of a dozen regions across Georgia that will vote independently on the tax increase, which could generate a total of more than $18 billion statewide for transportation projects over the next decade.

Atlanta stands to gain the biggest share. Supporters estimate the 1-cent increase would generate more than $8.4 billion between 2013 and 2022. The sales tax in the region is now around 5 or 6 cents on the dollar in most cases.

Each region developed a list of projects involving such things as roads, bridges, mass transit, ports, airports and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Metro Atlanta's list is heavy on road projects ? including the widening or resurfacing of highways, the building of new ramps and reconstruction of a busy interchange ? and light on mass transit.

Opposition in metro Atlanta has crossed political and racial lines, creating unlikely allies and adversaries.

Pro-business Republicans, including Gov. Nathan Deal, are finding themselves at odds with tea-party leaders in the GOP, who argue government can't be trusted to manage the tax revenue responsibly.

The fiscal conservatives have made common cause with black Democrats, who say the plan doesn't do enough to help poor people and minorities because it devotes little to mass transit and overlooks some sections of the city, and with environmental groups, which fear more pollution and development.

"We're just united against a bad idea," said Neill Herring of the Sierra Club. "We've got to break this sprawl habit."

Supporters have bankrolled an $8 million campaign under the banner Untie Atlanta and say the transportation projects will create jobs via the construction work itself and the improvements that will ease congestion and make the city more attractive to companies looking to relocate.

"As a result of our failure to deal with our traffic issues as other leading cities in the world are doing far more rapidly, we risk entering a period of decline," Mayor Kasim Reed said. "This is our region's leadership moment."

Specifically, we wish to align with professionals interested in providing a tremendous home decoration experience backed by our proven system, experience and technology. If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of the HomeStory franchise package, please contact us today.

Why Door Replacement?

Simply put: A substantial unmet need.?Like most items in a home, doors wear out, become outdated and need to be replaced. Yet, few homeowners have been offered an affordable, convenient and mess-free option for updating their doors. As a result, most homes still have their old doors, making this a?large, untapped market with little competition.

What a Difference!?Homeowners repeatedly tell us how surprised and delighted they are with the dramatic improvement our custom doors and hardware make throughout their homes. With HomeStory, you?re able to consistently exceed customer expectations, making them invaluable advocates for your service.

Our Technology Unlocks Door Replacement!

Revolutionary Efficiency ? from 3 Days to 3 Hours!

The Problem We Solve.?Replacing doors has never been easy, for homeowners or contractors. Most homes settle over time, causing doorjambs to shift and doors to bind or stop closing. These conditions make it difficult to efficiently install new doors, even for a skilled carpenter.

Traditional replacement methods have several problems:

  1. They require significant time and skill, and often taking 3 days or more to replace all doors in a home?at a cost of $250 to $500 or more per door.
  2. They make a mess in the home by cutting into jambs and walls, and trimming and painting new doors.
  3. They are a hassle. Without a one-stop shop like HomeStory, homeowners are left managing multiple contractors and suppliers.

But with HomeStory?s One-Cut System, doors are replaced in as little as 10 minutes each and entire homes are finished in just 3 hours ? often for 50% less than the cost of traditional methods.

The One-Cut System is the Solution

Delivering Speed, Accuracy and Consistency

A Game-Changing Solution.?Imagine a custom door that installs into the existing jamb perfectly the first time, in just a few minutes, while requiring little skill. The new hinges align precisely with their pockets, so the door simply slides into place. Despite a bow in the jamb, the door fits and looks great, with an even reveal (gap) around it.

Our groundbreaking One-Cut? System accomplishes this by quickly and accurately capturing a 3-dimensional image of the doorjamb, including the precise hinge and handle locations. Using this data, new doors are custom-cut on a large CNC machine, even if the jamb is bowed or is no longer square. Once precut, the new doors can be finished to order with premium-quality, factory-applied paint or clear-coat.

One-Cut eliminates the mess, time, and skill required under traditional door replacement methods by producing custom, finished doors in the factory that are ready to be installed.

Now your crew of two people can transform a customer?s entire home on time, on budget, and with no mess or stress!

One-Cut: It is not only an advantage?- it changes the game.

Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Who is your competition??In most areas there are few direct competitors. We encourage prospective franchise owners to investigate the number and of strength of potential competitors. Often, they are limited to contractors, handymen and home improvement retailers. In many cases, the expense and inconvenience of their offerings actually help your business by standing in stark contrast to the incredible ease and value of the HomeStory service.

Can a business thrive by offering just doors??Absolutely. Our founder has?enjoyed continued success since 1997, specializing solely in door replacement. In addition, there are many examples of successful home improvement companies that specialize only in one area, such as window companies, closet organizers, and custom window coverings. The key to success in a niche business is providing a superior product and service while generating a high volume of sales.

What are the qualifications??We look for candidates with management, marketing, sales and entrepreneurial backgrounds, as they can make excellent HomeStory business owners. Some States may require that an owner or manager obtain a Contractor?s License to perform in-home door replacement. We do not require construction or remodeling experience, except as required by law.

Mother Grieving Loss of Child - http://mothergrievinglossofchild ...

Friday's Faith

Come, Sweet Comforter

Could it be Your will as it was for Your Son...

"To crush (me) and cause (me) to suffer"

Under the weight of this burden of grief

After losing my child, my little one?

And though not the death, but the number of days,

That were set for my child, my precious one~

Could these be a part of Your Heavenly ways?

If this be Your path, if t'were Your path, then I dare not shun...

But God, how to live with this heavy heart

That grieves every day since she did depart~

How do I live, even though I die

When the life was cut down of "the apple of my eye"?

Only You ~Divine Creator~ can create a path

Through these ruins that lie beneath Death's crater;

For it seems this darkness threatens to overtake,

Living in this, The Shadow, of the Vile One's wrath.

"Even the darkness is not dark to You

As the night will shine like the day

For darkness is as light to You."

I look to You Lord, to light up my way,

Sprinkled with Grace as though refined by fire

As I walk everyday in the muck of Death's mire,

For it's only in the crucible that You meet us in the fire,

And in the crucible of the Crucifix, only You can show the way...

Come to me Lord; hold me close to Your heart,

For my heart forever breaks since my baby did part...

Come, sweet Comforter, come ~Please come~

Hold me in Your arms; take me safely through the Shadow,

Guide me all the way Home.

~~~~~
Isaiah 53:10 NIV
Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes His life a guilt offering, He will see His offspring and prolong His days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
Psalm 139:15-16 NIV
My frame was not hidden from You
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in Your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:11-12 NIV
If I say, ?Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,?
even the darkness will not be dark to You;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to You.
For thus saith the Lord of hosts: After the glory he hath sent me to the nations that have robbed you: for he that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of my eye:
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings...
How pre-eruption collisions affect what exits a volcano
How much ash will be injected into the atmosphere during Earth's next volcanic eruption? Recent eruptions have demonstrated our continued vulnerability to ash dispersal, which can disrupt the aviation industry and cause billions of dollars in economic loss. Scientists widely believe that volcanic particle size is determined by the initial fragmentation process, when bubbly magma deep in the volcano changes into gas-particle flows.
But new Georgia Tech research indicates a more dynamic process where the amount and size of volcanic ash actually depend on what happens afterward, as the particles race toward the surface. Their initial size and source depth, as well as the collisions they endure within the conduit, are the differences between palm-sized pumice that hit the ground and dense ash plumes that jet into the atmosphere and can halt aviation. The findings are published in the current edition of Nature Geoscience.
Assistant Professor Josef Dufek used lab experiments and computer simulations to study particle break-up, known as granular disruption, in volcanic eruptions. His team, which included the University of California, Berkeley's Michael Manga and Ameeta Patel, determined that shallow (approximately 500 meters below the surface) fragmentation levels likely cause abundant, large pumice that are often seen in large volcanic eruptions. If the fragmentation begins a few kilometers underground, the volcano is more likely to emit fine-grained ash.
"The longer these particles stay in the conduit, the more often they collide with each other," said Dufek, a faculty member in Georgia Tech's School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "These high-energy collisions break the volcanic particles into fractions of their original size. That's why deeper fragmentations produce small particles. Particles that begin closer to the surface with less energy don't have time for as many collisions before they exit the volcano. They stay more intact, are larger and often contained in pyroclastic flows."
The team collected volcanic rock from California's Medicine Lake volcanic deposit for collision experiments. They also used glass spheres because, like glass, pumice is heated and hardens before crystals are able to form. Using a pumice gun that propels volcanic fragments using compressed gases, Dufek and his team determined that particles must collide at a minimum of 30 meters per second to break into larger pieces.
Using numerical simulations, the researchers concluded that large pumice particles (greater than fist size) will not likely remain intact unless the fragmentation is very shallow. Abundant large pumice rocks in a deposit provide an indication of the depth of fragmentation, which may vary over the course of the eruption. Due to the depth and violent nature of the process, scientists have had little record of the depth of the fragmentation process, even though much of the eruptive dynamics and subsequent hazards are determined in this process.
Dufek and his team will next use the research to better understand the dynamics of one of the most rare natural disasters: super volcanoes, which produced the features in Yellowstone National Park.
"We know very little about the eruption processes during super eruptions," said Dufek. "Indications of their fragmentation levels will provide important clues to their eruptive dynamics, allowing us to study them in new ways."
How pre-eruption collisions affect what exits a volcano
How much ash will be injected into the atmosphere during Earth's next volcanic eruption? Recent eruptions have demonstrated our continued vulnerability to ash dispersal, which can disrupt the aviation industry and cause billions of dollars in economic loss. Scientists widely believe that volcanic particle size is determined by the initial fragmentation process, when bubbly magma deep in the volcano changes into gas-particle flows.
But new Georgia Tech research indicates a more dynamic process where the amount and size of volcanic ash actually depend on what happens afterward, as the particles race toward the surface. Their initial size and source depth, as well as the collisions they endure within the conduit, are the differences between palm-sized pumice that hit the ground and dense ash plumes that jet into the atmosphere and can halt aviation. The findings are published in the current edition of Nature Geoscience.
Assistant Professor Josef Dufek used lab experiments and computer simulations to study particle break-up, known as granular disruption, in volcanic eruptions. His team, which included the University of California, Berkeley's Michael Manga and Ameeta Patel, determined that shallow (approximately 500 meters below the surface) fragmentation levels likely cause abundant, large pumice that are often seen in large volcanic eruptions. If the fragmentation begins a few kilometers underground, the volcano is more likely to emit fine-grained ash.
"The longer these particles stay in the conduit, the more often they collide with each other," said Dufek, a faculty member in Georgia Tech's School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "These high-energy collisions break the volcanic particles into fractions of their original size. That's why deeper fragmentations produce small particles. Particles that begin closer to the surface with less energy don't have time for as many collisions before they exit the volcano. They stay more intact, are larger and often contained in pyroclastic flows."
The team collected volcanic rock from California's Medicine Lake volcanic deposit for collision experiments. They also used glass spheres because, like glass, pumice is heated and hardens before crystals are able to form. Using a pumice gun that propels volcanic fragments using compressed gases, Dufek and his team determined that particles must collide at a minimum of 30 meters per second to break into larger pieces.
Using numerical simulations, the researchers concluded that large pumice particles (greater than fist size) will not likely remain intact unless the fragmentation is very shallow. Abundant large pumice rocks in a deposit provide an indication of the depth of fragmentation, which may vary over the course of the eruption. Due to the depth and violent nature of the process, scientists have had little record of the depth of the fragmentation process, even though much of the eruptive dynamics and subsequent hazards are determined in this process.
Dufek and his team will next use the research to better understand the dynamics of one of the most rare natural disasters: super volcanoes, which produced the features in Yellowstone National Park.
"We know very little about the eruption processes during super eruptions," said Dufek. "Indications of their fragmentation levels will provide important clues to their eruptive dynamics, allowing us to study them in new ways."
Comfort in response to the shootings in Colorado
A Christian Science perspective: The shootings in a theater in Aurora, Colo. early Friday prompted this resident of Aurora to offer comfort through prayer.
By Margarita Sandelmann Thatcher / July 22, 2012
When tragedy strikes close to home, we ask why? We mull over the particular incident and try to find a reason for it.
I live in Aurora, Colo. My first response upon hearing the news of the theater shooting early Friday morning was shock and disbelief ? shock and dismay at the picture of violence, hate, aggression, terrorism, practically on my doorstep.
But very quickly my thought turned to something better and reliable. For many years I?ve found that quickly turning to God in any situation, especially one that is filled with tragedy and grief, is the very best thing to do, and brings comfort and clear thinking.
I?ve learned that we don?t have to accept violence or evil of any kind as inevitable for ourselves and others, that we don?t have to accept that goodness is always mixed with evil, and that ?that?s just the way things are.?
Instead of stoically accepting that bad things happen to good people, we can do something. And that something is simply ? yet primarily ? prayer.
Over the years I?ve learned that it?s essential to face down violence, tragedy, and grief with an unshaken conviction that God, the Supreme Being, has always been and will forever be unchanging in His all-embracing love and care for each one of us. Easy to say! And you may ask, how can this view of God help me and those caught in extreme situations where senseless terror seems to have the upper hand?
There?s help at hand as we turn to God?s Word. One of my favorite verses in the book of Psalms speaks of lifting our heads, of looking up: ?I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.... The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil? (Psalm 121:1, 2, 7).
I have always loved this psalm, perhaps especially since my home is in this beautiful state with splendid mountain vistas and an uplifting, joyful evidence of beauty and goodness all around. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper repeated emphatically on the news, ?This is a safe city, and a safe state.? Not only do I find joy and inspiration in looking at the hills and mountains, but I also find a deeper meaning in the words of the Psalmist, words that tell us to lift our thought higher than what the outward appearances present, mingling of good and bad, joy and sorrow, life and death.
In dire situations I have found comfort and strength in that psalm, not just by reading it, but by acknowledging in my heart that God is infinite Love, and that He cares for us infinitely.
Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Monitor, put it succinctly: ?Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need? (?Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,? p. 494). That divine Love is right at hand, embracing the grieving heart as a parent embraces and comforts a child. Prayer acknowledging this fact can touch those grieving hearts in tangible ways ? in the way that most meets their need at any given moment. Mrs. Eddy compassionately knew that ?The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father?s loving-kindness? (p. 365). This priceless love of God reaches out to each suffering one right now, and heals the broken heart.
Mulling over this tragic incident, being shocked at the evidence of evil and lawlessness and senseless violence, keeps our prayers mired in the awful mud of fear and dismay, and is nonproductive. There is a better way. We can take a stand for the goodness inherent in God?s creation, and lift our prayers higher, never closing our eyes to our neighbor?s grief and suffering, but opening our eyes again and again to the comforting Father-Mother God, who is infinitely able to bring restoration, healing, comfort, and peace to His loved family. Eddy?s conviction of the supremacy of good is expressed in these comforting words: ?No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme? ("Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896," p. 277).?
Good is more powerful than evil. Love is stronger than hate or fear, and Love never fails.
The city of Aurora is beautifully named. The word ?Aurora? signifies dawn. I will continue to pray for the dawn of a new day of peace, brotherhood, loving kindness, not only in the city where I live, but on the entire planet.
I?m reminded of the popular song that opens with this line: ?Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me..." by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller. Each prayer, each desire to comfort, each expression of love for our neighbor, is filled with God?s power to heal. This helps us move toward peace on earth.
One day later, shooting survivor finishes 'Dark Knight'
Less than one day after he escaped the chaos and carnage of the Aurora, Colo., theater shooting, lifelong Batman fan Justin Davis was back at the movies with a sense of purpose.
Davis, 16, was accompanied by his brother and a friend to a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a different Colorado movie theater.
"I just want to finish it, and for all those men, women and children that didn't get to finish it, I want to finish it for them," he said.
Shortly after midnight on Friday, a shooter opened fire in a packed theater in Aurora, killing 12 people and injuring 58 in the nation's largest mass shooting.
New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles are among the major cities where police departments are ramping up security at theaters in response to Friday's shooting.
"We are doing that to address the potential of a copycat event," said New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
No significant drop in attendance has been reported around the country, although some movie goers said they felt on edge.
"When we first arrived, I was like, 'Hey maybe we should sit closer to the exit,'" said Michael Scheno, who saw the movie in New York City.
AMC Theaters announced Friday it had banned costumes from its theaters to provide an element of increased security.
Warner Brothers will not report "The Dark Knight Rises" box office results this weekend "out of respect for the victims and their families," according to a statement. Box office numbers will instead be released on Monday.
ABC News' Clayton Sandell and John Schriffen contributed to this report.
Virginia wants a tough Arizona-style ?show me your papers? law ...
RICHMOND, Va. July 23 2012? The results of last week?s Quinnipiac Poll question on immigration were clear and loud: Virginia wants a tough Arizona-style ?show me your papers? law allowing police to check the legal status of people stopped or arrested for other reasons.
By almost a 2-to-1 ratio, registered Virginia voters surveyed by the respected Quinnipiac University Polling Institute said they favor an Arizona-style crackdown ? at least the police checks provision of Arizona?s sweeping law that wasn?t voided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Guess what: Virginia put a version of that law in place in 2008, two years before Arizona. It requires Virginia officers to check every person they arrest and take into custody to determine whether they are in the United States legally. Virginia long ago mandated checks on arrests and in many other circumstances, including admission to a state hospital, to obtain a driver?s license, Medicaid benefits and, in some cases, employment.
There are dozens of provisions in Virginia?s statutes aimed at isolating illegal immigrants. Some go back generations. With an economy still in its sickbed four years after a frightful meltdown, a federal government pilling up $4 billion in new debt daily, and jobs easy to lose and hard to find, paranoia and anger find an easy foil in immigrants, particularly undocumented ones. And as Quinnipiac found, it stirs powerful feelings that politicians can harness to push for more ? even sometimes redundant ? restrictive laws targeting immigrants.
When asked if they supported the Arizona model allowing police to verify the legal status of people stopped or arrested, 64 percent of the 1,673 registered voters surveyed said yes and 31 percent said no while 5 percent offered no answer. The survey, based on telephone interviews, was conducted from July 10-16 and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
Asked if Virginia should implement the same policy, 62 percent said yes, 34 percent said no and 4 percent didn?t know.
Prince William County, which has a rich blend of Hispanic and other ethnic groups and has been on the front lines of skirmishes over immigration policy for years, tried a similar approach several years ago, but jettisoned it as a budget-buster.
In a twist, when poll respondents were asked what they thought of President Barack Obama?s decision to allow young illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children to obtain work permits and avoid deportation, 53 percent favored the decision to 40 percent who did not with 7 percent undecided.
For the past two years, conservative Republican House of Delegates members from Prince William County ? Virginia?s premiere testing ground on immigration issues ? have unsuccessfully pushed bills that restate and make marginal advances to Virginia?s 4-year-old check-on-arrest law.
?Some people say that what?s on the books is already sufficient, but this clarifies the language and makes it more specific,? said Del. Scott Lingamfelter, who sponsored the bill in 2011. Del. Richard Anderson, R-Woodbridge, carried the bill this year.
But Lingamfelter, who has announced his candidacy for the 2013 lieutenant governor election, conceded that police ?can already make the checks right now. Any locality in the state can do it. It?s considered acceptable police work.?
This week?s poll means the bill is probably bound for another encore before Virginia?s GOP-ruled House and Senate starting in January, Lingamfelter said
Claire Guthrie Gastanaga, the newly installed executive director of the Virginia ACLU who has spent years lobbying the General Assembly on behalf of Latinos and other immigrant groups, voices frustration over it.
?We have at least 50 laws on the books that directly affect immigrants, many of which require some sort of check on immigration status,? she said Friday.
In the Legislature, she said, ?the first reaction (to the poll) is, ?Well, we need to do something to respond to this public concern.? Well, no you don?t because you already have.?
And in more ways than one might imagine, according to a list Gastanaga gleaned from Virginia?s statutes. The Department of Mental Health, under a law enacted before 1950 during the time of the state?s shameful experiment with the discredited pseudoscience of eugenics, must determine the nationality of anyone admitted to a state facility and to report to federal immigration authorities anyone found to be an ?alien.?
Sheriffs and the Department of Corrections are required under another pre-1950 law to identify ?criminal aliens? in the state?s jails and prisons and report them.
?We?ve been at this a long time,? Gastanaga said.
Politically, a tough line on illegal immigrants has been generally good for Republicans, said political consultant and retired Virginia Commonwealth University political science professor Robert D. Holsworth. They have to be careful, however, not to overdose on it.
?On one hand, you have a 2-to-1 majority in a poll showing people favor a show-your-papers law,? Holsworth said. But the electoral consequences of enacting ever more strident illegal immigration laws could be damage to the GOP?s prospects among the fast-growing ethnic and minority populations, he said.
?Then one day legal immigrants hear this and they start to worry and start asking themselves ?Who are you talking about here?? and they start talking about that,? Holsworth said.
EatingWell: 3 Tricks for Healthier Macaroni Salad
3 Tricks for Healthier Macaroni Salad
By Hilary Meyer, Associate Food Editor, EatingWell Magazine
Macaroni salad is one of those dishes that you just have to have at a summer potluck gathering. The ingredients are cheap, it?s easy to make (and make a lot of) and has a wonderfully creamy texture and mild flavor that everyone loves.
But if you think your typical macaroni salad is harmless, think again. Right when you?re about to squeeze back into that bikini, good old macaroni salad will make that task a little more difficult. A typical one cup serving packs 370 calories and 22 grams of fat. Yikes.
Don?t Miss: Pasta Salad vs. Potato Salad. Which Is Healthier?
Before you throw that salad into the swimming pool, know that you can enjoy that same one cup serving with nearly half the calories and more than half the fat. Here?s how to make your macaroni salad healthier:
Tip 1) Use Whole-Wheat Pasta
Although using whole-wheat pasta doesn?t make much of a difference calorically, it does add fiber. Fiber doesn?t add calories, but helps you feel full so you?ll be less likely to go back for a second serving. And skipping that second serving will help you stay slim. A traditional macaroni salad has only one gram of fiber, while our version has three grams of fiber.
Tip 2) Bulk Up on Veggies
Typical macaroni salads are pretty spare when it comes to the vegetables. It might have a smattering of celery ? maybe some chopped onion. And that?s about it. So without breaking too far with tradition, our version adds more vegetables to the mix. Beyond the typical celery and onion, we?ve also added spinach, carrot and edamame. All three are mild so they don?t take away from the traditional flavor, but they add nutrients and volume without adding a ton of calories.
Tip 3) Think Beyond Mayonnaise
Arguably the best part of a macaroni salad is the creaminess that typically comes from mayonnaise. Our version has plenty of mayo, but we opt for low-fat mayo instead of full-fat and mix it up with reduced-fat sour cream. This helps keep calories and fat in check ? our version has only seven grams of fat compared to 22 grams in a traditional version.
Don't Miss: How to Make Any Recipe Healthier
Here is our made-over recipe for Macaroni Salad:
Get the Recipe: Macaroni Salad
Old-fashioned macaroni salad sometimes contains jarred pimientos, diced ham or pickle relish, but this version is simple and deliciously plain with fresh chopped celery, carrot and onion. A combination of low-fat mayo and sour cream lightens up the dressing, and whole-wheat elbow noodles, spinach and edamame add extra nutrients.
